South Australia Shadow Minister for River Murray Mitch Williams
Labor’s Cruel Hoax On SA’s Food Producers

The Labor Government’s cruel hoax on South Australia’s food producing regions continues with irrigators still barred from accessing 100 % water allocations until July 1, Shadow Minister for River Murray Mitch Williams said today.
“A bad agreement made by the Rann Labor Government in 2007 has left South Australian irrigators with only two thirds of their water allocations while floodwaters rush past their doorsteps and run out to sea.”
“It’s absurd that we are seeing flood conditions in the southern portion of the Murray Darling system, but SA irrigators with supposedly high security water licenses are hampered with the results of Labor’s inability to negotiate on behalf of SA.” Mr. Williams said.
“River food producers in SA have borne the brunt of years of drought and low flows and should not be further penalised by the Labor Government’s incompetence now that the heavens have opened up and created the best flows for years.”
“The Labor Government’s cruel hoax on South Australia’s food producing regions must end now.” Mr. Williams said.
“It ill-behoves Minister Caica to try to cover-up the Labor Government’s mishandling of this issue by talking about the next water season, which starts on 1 July this year.”
“Even Blind Freddy could see that irrigators will get 100 % water allocations, but the problem for irrigators is that they are being forced to purchase water to finish this year’s crops.”
“If Premier Rann’s insensitive and uncaring Labor Government can’t run itself, how can it possibly look after the interests of SA’s food producing regions?” Mr. Williams asked.
