A Kids Summer of Country Racing campaign will see free entertainment for families at a variety of Victorian country races this summer with the Minister for Racing Denis Napthine today launching the program at the Geelong Racecourse.
Dr. Napthine said the Victorian Coalition Government would partner with Country Racing Victoria, Camp Australia and 30 regional racing clubs to deliver the $374,000 program.
“The Kids Summer of Country Racing campaign is a brilliant way for the whole family to enjoy the atmosphere of country racing throughout regional Victoria during the 2011/12 summer holiday period.” Dr. Napthine said.
“The program will be delivered in conjunction with Camp Australia and offer families affordable, fun and safe entertainment on specific summer race days.”
“Activities will include face painting, badge making, sand wizards, tug of war, crazy cricket, giant earth ball, obstacle courses, jumping castles, mini golf and rock wall climbing.” Dr. Napthine said.
Dr. Napthine said the campaign would be offered at 27 country race meetings and run from 26 December 2011 until 26 January 2012 before extending to a further three country race days held during February and April.
Dr. Napthine said the campaign would be partly funded through the Coalition Government’s Victorian Racing Industry Fund Raceday Attraction Program.
“The Coalition Government will provide $164,000 towards the campaign with Country Racing Victoria contributing $150,000 and 30 race clubs providing $60,000 towards the $374,000 campaign.” Dr. Napthine said.
Country Racing Victoria Chief Executive Officer Scott Whiteman said the Kids Summer of Country Racing campaign was born out of country clubs’ desire to cater for the needs of their communities.
“Country race clubs play an important role within their communities and have worked very closely with Country Racing Victoria to create this campaign specifically aimed at families and children.” Mr. Whiteman said.
“The key feature at each of these race days is the presence of Camp Australia, who we are very fortunate to have providing a series of craft activities, physical games, various inflatables and amusements, all free of charge for children to enjoy on the day.”
