Local Member for Katherine, Willem Westra van Holthe, has today officially opened the new $2.9 Million Katherine Renal Unit.

The new facility will increase renal dialysis capacity in Katherine by providing an additional eight chairs. The Unit will be staffed with six nurses and three support staff.

The Renal Unit is the second partnership between the public and private sectors to provide renal services in the Northern Territory.

“This facility will help relieve the strain put on our existing renal services in Katherine. This is a facility not just for the Katherine Township but the entire Katherine Region.” Mr. Westra van Holthe said.

“Under national best practice, renal units like this are located within a community to promote a total wellness model of care. Katherine is the capital of this region and is now better equipped to provide health services.

“I am very proud to be opening this facility on behalf of the Giles Government. The Country Liberals are providing services where they are needed most.” Mr. Westra van Holthe said.
