Caterpillar Job Losses A Disaster For The Coast

Victor P Taffa

Deputy Opposition Leader Jeremy Rockliff said the loss of around 100 jobs at Caterpillar is a disaster for the North West Coast.

“Our thoughts are with those workers and their families affected by this announcement. Under Labor and the Greens, the North West Coast already has one of the nation’s worst unemployment rates at 9.2 %. Today’s announcement will only make things worse.” Mr. Rockliff said.

“Yet, rather than working to create jobs, the Labor-Green minority experiment is actively working to shut down key industries, like forestry and mining.”

“In contrast, a majority Liberal Government will stand up for and build our key competitive strengths, like forestry, mining and agriculture, and we’ll make Tasmania a more competitive place to do business.” Mr. Rockliff said.
