Jacinta Forbes QC Appointed Judge To Supreme Court

New Judge Appointed To The Supreme Court

Andrews Government has today announced the appointment of Jacinta Forbes QC as Victoria’s newest Supreme Court judge.

“Ms. Forbes has made a significant contribution to Victoria’s legal profession throughout her career, particularly in the fields of personal injury and professional negligence law.” Attorney-General Jill Hennessy said.

“I would like to congratulate Ms. Forbes on her appointment and thank the Honourable Justice Gregory Garde for his years of dedicated service to the court.”

Ms. Forbes joined the Victorian Bar in 2000 and was appointed Queens Counsel in 2014. She has extensive senior legal experience including specialisation in areas of professional negligence, personal injury, product liability and general common law matters.

Ms. Forbes has been a member of the Victoria Bar Council since 2017, where she has served as chair of the Equality and Diversity Committee and as a member of the Counsel Committee and the Continuing Professional Development Committee.

Ms. Forbes has been involved in major litigation projects, including representing Australian women in product liability claims against US-based silicone breast implant manufacturers during her time as a solicitor.

Ms. Forbes also has experience in native title litigation, having represented claimants in West Kimberley before the Native Title Tribunal during its early years

Ms. Forbes has also made a significant contribution to pro bono work in a range of fields, including medical evacuations.

Ms. Forbes has a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Melbourne. She replaces the Honourable Justice Gregory Garde, who retired in March and will continue to serve as a reserve judge.
