Tasmania Shadow Minister for Sustainable Transport Matthew Groom

What’s McKim’s Position On Metro Pay Rise?

It’s time for Metro Minister Nick McKim to tell Tasmanians what his position is on the worsening pay dispute between Metro and its bus drivers, according to Shadow Minister for Sustainable Transport Matthew Groom.

“So far, Minister McKim has tried to dodge the question and is pretending this issue has nothing to do with him, when ultimately he will be responsible for settling this industrial dispute.” Mr. Groom said.

“The Minister has even refused to act to stop these costly strikes by referring the matter to the Fair Work Commission. The fact is that Metro already operates at a loss and the Government would have to foot the bill for a significant pay rise.”

“So will Minister McKim support the Government handing over more money to fund a bus driver pay rise, or will the Minister stick to the Government’s existing wages policy? It’s time Minister McKim came clean.” Mr. Groom said.

Bob Hawke was a former Trade Union Leader in the 1970’s that had a magical knack of solving industrial disputes.

Bob Hawke served as Labor Prime Minister of Australia from 1983-1991.
