Infrastructure Investment Shows That Northern Territory Confidence Abounds

Infrastructure Plan Growing The Territory

Minister for Infrastructure Peter Chandler said the Country Liberal’s Government record $1.5 Billon infrastructure spend is providing a significant injection into the Northern Territory’s economy and a consistent pipeline of works to the construction industry.

“Only the Country Liberals have a plan to create opportunities to deliver more jobs, better services and improve our unique way of life.” Mr. Chandler said.

“This financial year alone, the Department of Infrastructure has awarded 296 quotations and tenders valuing over $600 Million.”

Contracts awarded in the past month include;

  • Upgrades to Buley Rockholes for over $1.3 Million,
  • Upgrades to Nhulunbuy Boarding Facility for over $17 Million,
  • Alice Springs Youth and Community Centre upgrades for $2.7 Million.

“One aspect of the our record investment in infrastructure is giving Territory students the best education possible by providing more day care facilities, better opportunities for distance learning and new improved special education options.” Mr. Chandler said.

“Construction is under way on the new $5.5 Million child and family centre and we are investing in a new $4 Million preschool at Braiting Primary School.”

“The Country Liberals recognise the needs of special education students and to help address this we are investing in new schools.”

“Henbury School and Palmerston Special School are currently under construction for total investment of $54.4 Million.” Mr. Chandler said.

Still to come this financial year we will see the tenders released for; duplicating Vanderlin Drive, flood immunity at Saddle Rail, the Chan Building redevelopment, and the Milingimbi School Rebuild.

“I am proud to be the Minister for Infrastructure in a government who is implementing a successful plan to build the Territory and drive the economy forward.” Mr. Chandler said.
