Tasmania Shadow Minister for Primary Industries Jeremy Rockliff

Labor’s Catastrophic Bio-Security Bill Must Be Thrown Out

Victor P Taffa

Premier Lara Giddings and Deputy Premier Bryan Green are standing by while Tasmania’s primary industries are being sold out by Federal Labor, According to Shadow Minister for Primary Industries Jeremy Rockliff.

“Federal Labor’s proposed changes to the bio-security laws could devastate one of Tasmania’s pillar industries.”

“The new laws will shove a one-size-fits-all approach onto the whole of the nation. Surely Labor can see that each region of Australia is different, with different risks and opportunities? The almost unanimous view of those in primary industries in Tasmania is that we should be recognised as a unique region, with unique risks and given the tools to deal with that.” Mr. Rockliff said.

“Unfortunately, Lara Giddings and Bryan Green are nowhere to be seen and they are betraying the primary industries sector with their silence.”

“The Liberals have a plan to grow the primary industries sector tenfold by 2050. Bio-security is vital to reaching this target and we will always fight for Tasmanian farmers and primary producers.” Mr. Rockliff said.
