Improvements to Hopetoun’s Poulton Park Community Precinct were officially unveiled yesterday by Minister for Sport and Recreation Hugh Delahunty and Member for Mildura Peter Crisp, including a new pergola, toilets and barbeque, built with the assistance of $135,000 in Victorian Coalition Government funding.

Representing Deputy Premier Peter Ryan at yesterday’s event, Mr. Delahunty said the Poulton Park Community Precinct project has created a facility that would be well utilised and a valuable community asset.

“The works included the construction of a large L-shaped paved pergola area with built-in barbecues and a modern public toilet block, including facilities for people with disability.” Mr. Delahunty said.

“The Poulton Park Community Precinct is a wonderful multi-use facility that includes tennis courts, bowling greens, a children’s playground and of course a wonderful pool. It is located within the vicinity of Lake Lascelles, providing the chance to participate in activities such as fishing, picnicking, water-skiing and swimming.”

“The improvements unveiled today will cater for the ever increasing number of people using the park and will complement existing park facilities.”

Mr. Delahunty said yesterday’s opening included a pre-event local ‘swimathon’ to raise money for landscaping and tree planting along the western side of the facility.

Mr. Ryan said the Coalition Government had provided $135,000 towards the $220,000 Poulton Park Community Precinct project through Regional Development Victoria, with the Yarriambiack Shire Council contributing the remaining $85,000.

“Projects such as this are an example of the Coalition Government giving its support to local councils and community groups in helping to stimulate local economies and build important community infrastructure.” Mr. Ryan said.

“After many years of drought, the need for quality facilities to be available in Hopetoun for locals and visitors to be able to enjoy water activities has become a major focus of the community. It is pleasing the Coalition Government can contribute to this project in a meaningful way.”

Mr. Delahunty said the Coalition Government was committed to improving local infrastructure and services, creating jobs and boosting business opportunities throughout regional Victoria.

“This is why we developed the $1 Billion Regional Growth Fund, which is designed to drive regional development across the state, to ensure that regional Victoria remains a key contributor to our future growth and prosperity.” Mr. Delahunty said.
