Transport Minister Simon O’Brien said today that nearly $3 Million had been provided to build vehicle overtaking lanes just North of Yanchep Beach turn-off on Indian Ocean Drive.

Densford Civil Pty Ltd has been awarded a $2.63 Million contract to carry out the works, which include construction of a northbound and southbound passing lane; pavement widening; rehabilitation to a nearby parking bay; and modifications to intersections at Osman and Bindiar roads.

“Last year, I made a commitment that a minimum of $20 Million of Road Construction contracts be set aside for small businesses like Densford Civil Pty Ltd to tender for; this contract is one example of this Policy at work.” Mr. O’Brien said.

“This Project will provide safer passing opportunities for travellers using Indian Ocean Drive by reducing the risk of serious crashes.”

Works have commenced and are due to be completed by April 2011.

In September, the State Government opened the $95 Million Lancelin-Cervantes Road Project which completes the Indian Ocean Drive linking Perth with the Mid-West.
