South Australia Drug Lab Capital

An illegal drug laboratory allegedly found at a house in the North-Eastern suburbs this morning is another example of the link between the illegal production of drugs, consumption of illicit drugs and the increase in violent criminal behaviour in South Australia.

David Ridgway, Shadow Police Minister said that Premier Rann must explain to South Australians why SA is the drug lab capital of Australia.

“According to the 2007/2008 Australian Crime Commission’s National Clandestine Laboratory Database, per capita SA has more illegal drug producing laboratories than any other state in the country.” Mr. Ridgway said.

“For every 23,000 South Australians there was one illegal drug lab detected compared to one drug lab for every 60,000 people nationally.”

“The ‘tough on crime’ Premier, Mike Rann must be held accountable for the fact that these criminal hubs have grown here far more than the rest of the country.”

“How can we continue to trust Mike Rann he has demonstrated after eight years that he is all about ‘spin’ and not about effective action to stop spiralling violent crime or its causes.” Mr. Ridgway said.

Weak ineffectiveness from Government is ensuring that illicit drug use continues to increase to the detriment of society.
