Meningococcal Vaccine Program

Victor P Taffa

Hodgman Government will expand Tasmania’s meningococcal vaccination program, Minister for Health Michael Ferguson said.

“While the current vaccination program for high risk groups is consistent with advice provided by the Health Department, given heightened community concern the Government will consider how the current program could be further improved.” Minister Ferguson said.

“We will continue to work with our public health experts to review eligible age groups and consider coverage for all vaccine-preventable strains.”

“It was the Hodgman Government that introduced a state-based vaccination program for meningococcal W just last year and we will continue to take action to ensure Tasmanians have appropriate public health protection.” Minister Ferguson said.

Further details will be announced next week including the additional funding to support the expanded program.
