More Tourists The Key To West Coast Railway’s Success
Victor P Taffa
The Liberals welcome the decision to support the West Coast Wilderness Railway and urge the Government to get on with the job of finding an operator for this iconic tourist destination, Deputy Opposition Leader Jeremy Rockliff said.
“The best way to make sure that the West Coast Wilderness Railway and the thousands of other tourism businesses around the State are successful into the longer term is to attract more visitors to Tasmania.”
“The Liberals’ plan for a brighter future for the tourism industry will grow visitor numbers to 1.5 Million visitors per year by 2020.” Mr. Rockliff said.
“By achieving our goal, we can create 8,000 additional jobs and generate an extra $1 Billion in economic activity.”
“To make our plan a reality we will boost tourism marketing by $16 Million to give our industry the support it needs. The Liberals will say “yes” to tourism developments of all sizes in Tasmania.” Mr. Rockliff said.
“We will separate Tourism Tasmania from the bureaucracy freeing it from its bureaucratic straitjacket, and thereby positioning it to be a more effective, outcomes focussed entity.”
“Tasmania has some incredible tourism assets, but with challenging circumstances facing Tasmanian tourism operators, now is the time to be aggressively chasing opportunities, making Tasmania competitive and positioning ourselves as a tourism mecca for Australia and the rest of the world.” Mr. Rockliff said.
