About 11.50 pm on Thursday 21st October 2010, a 19 year old male from Dundas Valley was driving his motor vehicle in a South-Westerly Direction along Balaclava Road, Eastwood. The male person’s motor vehicle mounted the curb and collided with a speed sign which was uprooted from the ground. The motor vehicle then became lodged on the concrete slab which was attached to the base of the speed sign.

Police attended the scene and it was soon apparent that the male was under the influence of intoxicating liquor. He was unable to produce his driver’s licence when asked to do so. The male then started punching the side mirror on his vehicle which caused several lacerations to his hands. The male was shouting and using offensive language. As police attempted to detain the male a violent struggle ensued resulting in Police Officers coming into contact with the male person’s blood. A number of Police Uniform items had to subsequently be destroyed due to blood contamination.

The male person’s mother and girlfriend arrived at the scene and he calmed down sufficiently to undergo a roadside breath test which Proved Positive. The male person was taken to Eastwood Police Station where he was subjected to a breath analysis which produced a reading of 0.202. His driver’s licence was suspended immediately.

The male person was issued with a court attendance notice for drive with high range prescribed concentration of Alcohol, Negligent Driving, Use Offensive Language in a public place, resist Police Officer in the execution of duty and driver fail to produce licence. He is due to appear at Ryde Local Court on the 17th November, 2010.
