Premier Ted Baillieu has announced opportunities for Victorians to see Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh during their visit to Melbourne on Wednesday 26 October.

“Now that The Queen has arrived in Australia, Victorians of all ages will soon have the opportunity to welcome her in person.” Premier Baillieu said.

“In particular, Federation Square is a great place for Victorians to meet the Queen, given its status as Melbourne’s meeting place.”

The Queen and The Duke will begin their ‘Meet the People’ walk at 12:30 pm from the National Gallery of Victoria through Federation Square, with members of the public advised to arrive early.

The Royal couple will then board a Royal tram and travel south down Swanston Street, with opportunities from the footpath on the eastern side of the road to see the progress of the Royal tram and its passengers down to Government House Drive.

“Melburnians have always been proud of our tram network and The Queen’s tram ride in Melbourne will add to its rich history.” Premier Baillieu said.

The Queen and The Duke will then transfer to their vehicle to make their way to Government House for a State Reception. Public viewing access will be available from the path on the eastern side of Government House Drive.

Melbourne is one of only four cities the Royal couple will visit during their ten-day tour of Australia. Visits by The Queen to Victoria hold a special place in the memory of many Victorians. The Queen last visited Melbourne for the opening of the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
