Giddings Blows $6 Million p.a. On Interest Repayments

Treasurer Giddings has repeatedly spoken out in Parliament against going into net debt, but that is exactly what she has done.

Giddings – “I am determined not to go back into net debt. I am determined not to be spending money that ought to be spent on educating our kids and helping our people who are sick through the health system instead going to pay off interest on the money that we have had to borrow to prop up recurrent services.” March 16, 2011.

If this was a home loan it would equate to around $6 Million dollars being wasted in interest each year, according to Opposition Leader Will Hodgman.

“$6 Million equates to 1,200 extra elective surgeries or 150 teacher aides.”

“It is money that could and should be spent on essential services in health, education and public safety.” Mr. Hodgman said.

“Next Tuesday the Liberals will outline our alternative budget which put essential services first.” Mr. Hodgman said.
