George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens Enhancing Visitor Experiences

George Brown Darwin Botanic Garden’s $9.9 Million visitor and event centre interpretive display is one step closer with the fit out commencing last month.
Works have created 45 construction jobs as part of the Northern Territory Government’s Turbocharging Tourism investment to breathe new life into the Gardens, attracting visitors, stimulating the economy and creating jobs.
“Territory Government’s Turbocharging Tourism investment of $9.9 Million to improve the visitor experience and enhance facilities for community and corporate functions at the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens is coming to fruition.” Minister for Tourism Sport and Culture Lauren Moss said.
“Gardens are a stunning tropical destination and visitors will be able to experience a visual and sound display that highlights flora and fauna activity throughout the wet and dry seasons, and take respite while they are enjoying the Gardens.”
Interpretive display tells the history of the Gardens, the story of the Holtze family, George Brown and of its move from Fannie Bay to the current location.
Visitors will be able to explore traditional stories and Aboriginal botanical knowledge with exhibitions and displays centred on plants, places and people who have made our gardens unique.
Local architect Hully Liveris engaged Freeman Ryan Designs (FRD) to design the internal layout and curate the permanent exhibition inside the centre.
FRD has created national and international exhibitions and visitor experiences including the Dinosaurs in the Wild travelling exhibition in the UK, as well as Yiwarra Kuju: The Canning Stock Route at the National Museum of Australia in Canberra.
Local creative visual production company, Global Headquarters, has been roaming the Gardens filming the flora and fauna to create a visual and sound display that showcases its beautiful surrounds.
