Coalition Announces $1 Million For Central Geelong Laneways
Victor P Taffa
Planning Minister Matthew Guy today announced funding of $1 Million for City of Greater Geelong to reinvigorate public spaces and create pedestrian links throughout the centre of the city.
The funding will improve public realm works, purchase community facilities as well as art works and upgrade the city’s arcades and laneways.
“This money will be used to further enhance the vibrant centre of Geelong by improving connections for locals and visitors as well as improving accessibility and attracting investment.” Mr. Guy said.
“Laneways encourage pedestrian traffic that in turn sustains a range of business activity, from restaurants and cafes to galleries and shops.”
The funding supports the Victorian Government’s partnership with Council, Deakin University and the Committee for Geelong on the Vision 2 project, responding to the continued interest and growth in Geelong.
“People want to move to Geelong for both its lifestyle and employment opportunities. This money will further support the rapid growth and change that is taking place in the region.” Mr. Guy said.
Geelong is Australia’s 12th largest city and the Coalition Government’s funding complements other partnership projects, such as the connectivity works in the city centre between Trainshed Way and Bayley Street.
