Fans attending the SANFL IGA League Grand Final will be able to travel free on-board any Adelaide Metro bus, train or tram this year for the first time.

“Our Adelaide Oval Footy Express services for AFL games are always hugely popular with about 20,000 fans taking advantage of the service every round and we expect it to be just as popular for the SANFL Grand Final.” Acting Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Martin Hamilton-Smith said.

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure will offer free Footy Express services to all ticket holders for the Grand Final at Adelaide Oval on Sunday, 25 September.

“Free public transport is a great way to reduce the cost of a day out at the football, particularly for families, and it means Adelaide Metro can get thousands of fans into and out of the city faster and with more efficiency than ticketed services.”

Up to 30,000 fans are expected to attend the event and all will be eligible for the free transport.

“The SANFL IGA Grand Final is the climax of the local footy season and we know many people attending like to enjoy a drink or two to celebrate. Providing free public transport reduces the temptation to drink and drive while also taking the hassle out of getting to and from the game.” Mr. Hamilton-Smith said.
