Victorians, and visitors to Victoria seeking inspiration this Australia Day are encouraged to take advantage of a free mobile app released by the Victorian Coalition Government.

The VicEvents app features thousands of events and allows smartphone users to search events by category, location or date range and simply add events to any smartphone calendar.

Minister for Technology Gordon Rich-Phillips said the app was a fantastic way to promote and discover Australia Day events as well as our many tourist attractions, and it is free.

“The VicEvents app is not only a fantastic way to find an event, it provides a function to spread the word about your own event.” Mr. Rich-Phillips said.

“Individuals, businesses, organisations and community groups looking to promote their events free of charge are encouraged to submit Australia Day events to the app.”

The app features Australia Day events such as the Australia Day races in Sale and Hanging Rock races in Kyneton, the 7th Annual Havaianas Thong Challenge in Torquay, and the RACV Australia Day Picnic and Federation Vehicle Display.

“From fireworks and kite making to treasure hunts and racing, in locations throughout Victoria, the VicEvents app has something for everyone this Australia Day.” Mr. Rich-Phillips said.

The app now features over 3,000 events across a diverse range of categories and thousands of Victorians have downloaded the app since it was launched three months ago.

The app also allows users to share events with friends and family via email, twitter and facebook as well as integrate with a phone’s map and GPS system.

“We want all Victorians to take advantage of the thousands of wonderful events and activities Victoria has to offer.” Mr. Rich-Phillips said.

VicEvents is available on Google Android-based smartphones, and Apple’s iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
