LNP Urges People To Stay Out Of Flood Waters

Every Queenslander is being urged to stay right away from flood waters, the State Opposition said today.

Shadow Minister for Police Glen Elmes said flood waters were expected to take some time to clear.

“Flood waters will remain in many areas around Queensland I urge everyone to avoid swimming or trying to cross them.” Mr. Elmes said

“The dangers of entering this water are numerous, from swirling undercurrents, hidden drains and debris and possible health risks.”

“The last thing we need is for someone to get injured or hurt from entering flood waters unnecessarily.” Mr. Elmes said.

“Emergency Service Workers and Police are being stretched in the current circumstances and by staying safe and well away from flood waters we are all doing our bit to help.”

“I am again reinforcing previous messages that people should avoid using Triple-000 unless it’s an emergency. For non-urgent Police Matters call 131 444, or for SES 132 500.” Mr. Elmes said.
