Thunderbirds And Lightning To Reign At New Netball Stadium

Northern Territory’s first-ever premier league netball game will be played in Darwin at the new state-of-the art Territory Stadium.

Suncorp Super Netball match, between the Adelaide Thunderbirds and the Sunshine Coast Lightning, is hosted by the Territory Government as part of its $103 Million Turbocharging Tourism stimulus package.

“Our multi-million dollar investment in the new netball stadium has enabled us to host this national-grade sporting fixture and to showcase our vibrant city and unique lifestyle to a huge audience.” Minister for Tourism Sport and Culture Lauren Moss said.

“A number of team members from both the Thunderbirds and Lightning also play for the Australian Diamonds so spectators can expect thrilling action from world-class players. It will be an amazing spectacle and the best netball we have ever seen in Darwin.”

Many of the teams’ followers have come to Darwin to be a part of the action and a further 1.2 Million viewers are expected to watch the match on free-to-air Channel Nine.

“Having the Suncorp Super Netball play in Darwin is a stamp of approval from Netball Australia for our new facilities at Marrara.” Member for Sanderson Kate Worden said.

Territory Government’s $11.8 Million investment matched in part by the Federal Government in the fully equipped, high quality facility was designed to attract major netball events such as tomorrow’s game. Game commences at 2:30 pm, Saturday 8 June.
