The State Opposition today praised Lord Mayor Campbell Newman as well as the Brisbane City Council for working so quickly to return CityCat and ferry services.

Shadow Minister for Public Transport Tracy Davis said Brisbane commuters would be relieved to be able to return to their usual public transport arrangements.

“I would like to thank the Lord Mayor and all council workers responsible for readying two-thirds of Brisbane River Terminals to run again as of this Monday.” Ms. Davis said.

“This is a significant point in Brisbane’s recovery from a disaster which has shaped our river, our City and our State.”

“Our Capital City is after all named the River City and the sight of boats back in action will bring joy to many.” Ms. Davis said.

“This will also have a positive impact on our local tourism industry, as visitors to our city will again be able to get up close to our river and enjoy seeing Brisbane by water.”

“I encourage even those residents who don’t use the Ferry or CityCat Services to jump back on board in the coming weeks and appreciate our great River City.” Ms. Davis said.
