Tasmania Opposition Leader Will Hodgman

Burke’s Blackmail

Victor P Taffa

Federal Environment Minister Tony Burke’s attempts to hold our tourism industry hostage are disgraceful, according to Opposition Leader Will Hodgman.

“Mr. Burke claims that he will only consider allowing eco-tourism in our world heritage areas if the disastrous forestry deal is passed is nothing short of blackmail.”

“Tasmania can have a thriving tourism industry and a sustainable forestry industry. We shouldn’t be forced to choose one over the other.” Mr. Hodgman said.

“Even if the job destroying forestry deal does go through, we’re unlikely to see eco-tourism because the Greens won’t allow it. They’ve already opposed existing eco-tourism developments like Pumphouse Point, and we all know that the Green tail is wagging the Labor dog.”

“The Liberals believe that our tourism industry has a bright future, that’s why we want to increase tourism marketing by $16 Million.” Mr. Hodgman said.
