16 new jobs will be created in Tasmania’s North-East as a result of the Blue Derby Pods Ride eco-tourism proposal having received a lease and licence from the Tasmanian Government on Monday, Minister for State Growth Matthew Groom said.

The exciting new tourism development has been considered by the Government through its Expressions of Interest (EOI) process for new tourism offerings in Tasmania’s national parks and reserves.

The Blue Derby Pods Ride proposal has been determined to be sensitive, appropriate and sustainable by the EOI process’ expert Assessment Panel.

Blue Derby Pods Ride is a unique idea that will showcase all the North-East has to offer, from fantastic scenery to amazing food and wine.  Blue Derby Pods Ride will also offer visitors unique, pod-style accommodation.

“This is exactly what the Government set out to achieve with the EOI process. We put the call out to Tasmanian developers to create new and exciting visitor experiences that will not only provide exciting experiences for Tasmanians and visitors alike, but also encourage more people to explore regional parts of Tasmania.” Mr. Groom said.

“On top of that, Blue Derby Pods Ride will create more jobs in regional Tasmania. It’s a massive win-win for regional Tasmania.”

Blue Derby Pods Ride will offer visitor’s access to the Derby Regional Reserve and will tap into nearby mountain bike tracks.  The accommodation will include features designed to reduce the impact on the environment including solar panels and state of the art environmental waste water systems.

Commencement of on-ground works for the project has been subject to the project receiving planning approval from the Dorset Council and this was provided at the Council’s meeting last night.

With Dorset endorsing the development application, Blue Derby Pods Ride now has the green light to proceed.

“I congratulate the project’s proponents, Tara and Steve Howell and look forward to visiting Blue Derby Pods once it is up and running.” Mr. Groom said.
