Adelaide Oval Rent Goes To Community Sport

Victor P Taffa

The Stadium Management Authority will have to pay rent for Adelaide Oval under Liberal amendments passed in the Legislative Council last night.

The rent commences at $200,000 and builds at $200,000 per year capped at $1 Million. It is then indexed to CPI.

The amendments also require the money to go to community sport and recreation, not to Treasury.

The money will be placed in the Sport and Recreation Fund and will fund the Active Club program. This program is state-wide and available to all community sport and recreation clubs except those with poker machines.

“The Liberal amendments ensure that community sport and recreation are winners out of the Adelaide Oval deal.” Shadow Treasurer Iain Evans said.

“Community sporting groups were very concerned that so much money was going into the stadium and they were being ignored.”

“The Liberal Party is a strong supporter of community sport and recreation and moved the amendments to ensure more money went to help local clubs.”

“Sport and recreation are the heart and soul of local communities and we are delighted to have won them more money.” Mr. Evans said.
