Planning Minister Matthew Guy said Dwelling Approvals in Victoria are at record levels with 5,804 Dwellings approved in the Month of December 2010 or 40 % of all approvals Nationally.

“The Baillieu Government is committed to allowing an adequate supply of homes to match Victoria’s strong Population Growth.” Mr. Guy said.

For the Month of December 2010, Victoria’s Dwelling Approvals were up 11.4 % on November, and had an increase of 7 % on approvals in December 2009.

A key contributor to these figures was the Government’s approval of more than 1,300 Apartments in two major projects in Central Melbourne and Southbank.

“The Coalition is commitment to speeding up the planning system, improving the Planning Scheme Amendment Process, and releasing land more quickly. The Baillieu Government is delivering on its promise to make housing affordable for more Victorians and keep our economy strong.” Mr. Guy said.

“Labor failed on Housing Affordability, and the Brumby Government managed to make Melbourne the most unaffordable city in Australia.”

“The Baillieu Government is determined to turn that around.” Mr. Guy said.
