Three Charged With Assault Snakes Seized In Search – St. Marys

Four men have been charged following the alleged assault of a teenager at St. Marys yesterday.

The 17-year-old youth was walking along Australia Street about 5.30am when he was allegedly set upon by three men.

The youth was taken to Nepean Hospital where he was treated for injuries including a broken nose.

Police went to a home nearby where they arrested three men aged 20, 21 and 32. The men were taken to Penrith Police Station where each was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company, affray, and intimidation. The 20-year-old man was also charged with breach of bail.

The men aged 20 and 21 were refused bail and are due to appear in Penrith Local Court today.

The third man was granted bail to appear in Penrith Local Court on 7 January 2010.

In a separate but linked incident, a 48-year-old man was arrested after police executed a search warrant on the home in Australia Street about 1pm.

Police seized drugs – believed to be cannabis, amphetamines, and steroids –and drug paraphernalia as well as a firearm. Officers from the National Parks and Wildlife Service assisted Police when four snakes were also found at the home.

The man was charged with five counts of possession of protected fauna, as well as firearms charges. He was granted bail and is due to appear in Penrith Local Court on 7 January 2010.
