Driver Caught 166kph – Artarmon

Police caught a man driving at almost 100kph over the speed limit in Sydney’s north last night.

About 11pm, Police were conducting speed enforcement duties on the Gore Hill Freeway, when they spotted an orange-coloured 2004 model Monaro travelling south at high speed.

They allegedly clocked the Monaro at 166kph in an 80kph zone – more than twice the speed limit.

Police confiscated the 25-year-old man’s licence on the spot he was charged with driving in excess of 45kph over the speed limit.

Harbourside Local Area Commander, Superintendent Garry O’Dell said driving at these ridiculous speeds was not only extremely dangerous, but will mean automatic licence confiscation.

“Seemingly the thought of killing yourself or someone else doesn’t seem to register with some people.” Supt. O’Dell said.

“Hopefully the idea of being grounded for period of time is sufficient enough incentive to put the brakes on.”
