Attempted Murder – Broadway

Police have charged a man with attempted murder, after he allegedly tried to throw a woman from the upper floors of a shopping centre car park last night.

About 9pm, the 22-year-old woman was sitting on railing on the fourth level of a shopping centre car park at Broadway, when she was approached by the man.

The man allegedly grabbed the woman and slung her over the railing, holding her over a drop of approximately 30 metres to Francis Street.

The woman’s brother saw the incident and grabbed the man before she was pulled back over the railing.

The man and woman involved are related by marriage.

Police this morning arrested the 34-year-old man at his home in Canterbury. He was taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with attempted murder.

The man has been refused bail and will appear at Newtown Local Court this afternoon.

Investigators are appealing for a large number of shoppers who witnessed the incident to contact them at Leichhardt Local Area Command via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
