Griffith Base Hospital Funding Assured

New South Wales Deputy Premier and leader of the New South Wales Nationals John Barilaro today reassured the Griffith community that he and the New South Wales Government are committed to fully funding the complete redevelopment of Griffith Base Hospital.

Deputy Premier Barilaro said the New South Wales Government has committed to providing the additional funding for the hospital once Griffith Base Hospital’s Masterplan and costings are completed.

“I want to reassure the people of Griffith, in the strongest possible terms, the New South Wales Liberals and Nationals will fully redevelop the hospital.” Deputy Premier Barilaro said.

“Once costings are calculated, every cent required to build the state-of-the-art hospital Griffith needs and deserves, will be secured.”

“I know first-hand just how hard people in the Griffith community have fought for their hospital, and I want to reassure them that it will be delivered.”

“First $35 Million for Stage 1, as promised by Premier Gladys Berejiklian, is in the Budget papers for expenditure starting this year.” Deputy Premier Barilaro said.

“Funding for the full redevelopment will be made available, but first we need to get the masterplan done.”

“Murrumbidgee Local Health District (LHD) is preparing a site masterplan and that will give us a detailed vision of how the site can be redeveloped to deliver the services that Griffith community needs.”

“We need to know how much the final figure is before we budget for it.”

“What’s more important than the timing of the funding announcement, is the need to get the masterplan right, so Griffith gets the hospital that will serve the people of Griffith for years to come, as well as every dollar required to deliver it.” Deputy Premier Barilaro said.

Minister for Health Brad Hazzard said the master planning process had been open to the end of June, however due to interest from the community, Murrumbidgee LHD has agreed to keep that process open until the end of July to allow the community to provide more feedback.

“When that master planning is complete, we will then be in a position over coming months to fully identify the funding needed for the redevelopment of Griffith Base Hospital.” Minister Hazzard said.

“I met with the Premier Gladys Berejiklian, the Deputy Premier John Barilaro and the Minister for Health Brad Hazzard immediately after the Budget to get their assurances that Griffith Base Hospital will be funded in full.” Member for Murray Austin Evans said.

“I am pleased to say that these reassurances have been given.”

“Make no mistake, I will continue to fight like hell every day to make sure we get this hospital built.” Mr. Evans said.
