Consultation Continues For Darwin Rehabilitation Precinct

Northern Territory Government has lodged applications to rezone and subdivide the proposed site of the new Darwin Rehabilitation Precinct in Pinelands.

“People who do the wrong thing must face the consequences because all Territorians have the right to be safe.” Acting Minister for Planning Nicole Manison said.

“We need to make sure people get back on the right track not become lifelong criminals.”

Public comment is being invited and Territorians will have 28 days to provide their feedback.

Proposed precinct will incorporate the new Darwin Youth Justice Centre (and see Don Dale shut down), an Alcohol and Rehabilitation Centre and light industrial area.

Additional space has been allowed to buffer the development, which will be a secure, fit-for-purpose precinct focused on putting at-risk young people back on the right path.

Northern Territory Government is investing a historic $229.6 Million over the next 5 years to continue the overhaul of the child protection and youth justice systems, and implement the recommendations of the Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory.

Submissions close Friday 14 December 2018.
