A Country Liberals Government will construct 2,000 new homes over the next four years.

Announcing the initiative during today’s campaign rally Opposition Leader, Terry Mills, said the Country Liberals will turn around years of policy failure that has seen thousands of Territorians move interstate because of exorbitant housing costs.

“The biggest hit on the hip pocket is housing, both with rentals and the cost of buying or building a home.” Mr. Mills said.

“The Country Liberals will construct 2,000 new industry and affordable homes during our first term of Government.”

“These will be building projects that deliver affordable housing for apprentices’ nurses, teachers, young families and others who are currently being squeezed out of the rental market.”

“The Country Liberals will bridge the gap between the capacity of key workers to pay rent and the actual median rent that they are forced to pay under Labor.” Mr. Mills said.

Mr. Mills said the Country Liberals have a plan to reduce crime by 10% a year.

“Labor’s response to soaring crime was to stop releasing quarterly crime statistics.” Mr. Mills said.

“Our response will be to put 120 additional Police on the beat including 20 in Alice Springs.”

“We will properly resource Police patrols at night to ensure maximum coverage for Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs and the rural area.”

“We will be an accountable Government that again releases quarterly crime statistics.” Mr. Mills said.
