As work begins on site of the new Royal Adelaide Hospital the real cost to South Australian tax payers is still shrouded in secrecy.

Isobel Redmond, Leader of the Opposition said SA taxpayers have a right to know what the total cost of the new Royal Adelaide Hospital is amid concerns it could blowout by hundreds of millions of dollars.

“In typical Labor style the Premier and Health Minister announced with fanfare the commencement of work to build the new RAH but won’t divulge how much it is going to cost.” Ms. Redmond said.

“Labor continues to keep the real cost of the new RAH from South Australians is it because they know it is far more than the already announced $1.7 Billion?”

“Surely, if work has begun on this massive infrastructure project the Government knows how much it costs.” Ms. Redmond said.

“Anybody building a new home wouldn’t begin building until they knew how much it would cost them why is building a new Hospital any different?”

“If Labor doesn’t know what the cost is, then South Australians can rightly ascertain that Labor is irresponsible and reckless with taxpayers’ money.” Ms. Redmond said.

Health Minister John Hill told journalists at a press conference this morning:

“All of the figures about the cost of construction and the cost of the finance…will be available in a few weeks time.”

“A few weeks time is not good enough, tell South Australians now what it will cost and if the cost has blown out, by how much.” Shadow Minister for Health Duncan McFetridge said.

“Either Labor is reckless with taxpayers’ money, financially incompetent, or possibly both.” Mr. McFetridge said.
