East Gippsland’s Volunteer Firefighters will benefit from a $136 Million support package and a commitment to enshrine the terms of the Volunteer Charter into legislation if the Victorian Liberal Nationals Coalition is elected next month.

The Comprehensive Package announced today includes $61 Million in funding for New and Upgraded CFA Stations, New Tankers, Pumper Trucks, Ultra Light Tankers and Operational Support Vehicles.

The Nationals Candidate for East Gippsland Tim Bull said he would be fighting for East Gippsland’s fair share to secure funding from this package and on election was keen to talk to local brigades about their needs.

“Today’s announcement is an exciting boost for the hard-working CFA volunteers in the East Gippsland electorate.” Mr. Bull said.

“The record funding of $25 Million to enhance the CFA vehicle fleet and $36 Million to build and upgrade CFA Stations committed by the Coalition offers support for a number of local brigades.”

“Volunteers in our community will also have the opportunity to secure additional funding for equipment and volunteer support initiatives from the Community Safety Emergency Support Program and Valuing Volunteers Program, which will be extended for a further four years.”

“I will support them every step of the way in securing new funding from these Grant Programs.” Mr. Bull said.

Mr. Bull said the Coalition had also committed to introduce legislation designed to ensure CFA volunteers are consulted on issues that affect them.”

“Over the past 11 years, Labor has ridden roughshod over CFA Volunteers.” Mr. Bull said.

“Premier John Brumby has openly violated the terms of the Volunteer Charter which, among other things, commits the government to consult with the elected representatives of Volunteers on all matters which may impact upon CFA volunteers.”

“A Coalition Government will legislate to enshrine the terms of the Volunteer Charter to guarantee that volunteers will be consulted on issues that affect them.”

“I for one will stand up for local CFA volunteers and make every effort to ensure they are supported with adequate resources to continue the magnificent job they do.” Mr. Bull said.
