Man Charged After Alleged Ferry Assault – Circular Quay
A man has been charged after a man suffered head injuries during an alleged altercation last night on a ferry travelling to Manly.
About 6.05pm an altercation allegedly occurred between two male passengers on the ferry, which had just left Circular Quay.
During the altercation a 31-year-old Tasmanian man allegedly struck a 70-year-old Cairns man who stumbled and fell, striking his head on the deck.
Ferry staff and passengers immediately came to the aid of the older man and contacted emergency services. The ferry was turned back to Circular Quay.
Police and emergency services attended the scene and the 70 year old was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital suffering skull fractures. He remains in a serious but stable condition.
The 31 year old was arrested at the scene and taken to City Central Police station where he was charged with reckless wounding.
The man was refused bail and will appear in Central Local Court today.
