Fonterra Australia, one of Australia’s leading cheese manufacturers and exporters, will expand its Stanhope operations, creating six jobs and securing the future of the site.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional and Rural Development Peter Ryan joined with Member for Rodney Paul Weller to announce Fonterra would invest up to $6 Million to begin production of ricotta cheese at the company’s major Australian cheese manufacturing facility in Stanhope, supported by a $250,000 investment from the Victorian Coalition Government.

“This significant investment by Fonterra reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to maintaining its presence here in northern Victoria and will bring the company’s Stanhope workforce to 126.” Mr. Ryan said.

Mr. Weller said the Victorian Coalition Government was proud to be supporting Fonterra’s major investment in Stanhope with a $250,000 grant from the Industries for Today and Tomorrow program.

“The Liberal Nationals Coalition is committed to attracting new investment and creating jobs in regional and rural Victoria and supporting manufacturing projects.” Mr. Weller said.

The Stanhope dairy factory receives milk from around 260 dairy farms across northern Victoria and processes it into leading cheeses for domestic and international markets.

Fonterra is a key player in the state’s manufacturing industry. Manufacturing employs over 290,000 people and contribute more than $27 Billion annually to the Victorian economy.

“This is a great example of Government and industry working together to ensure we deliver on the global opportunities for dairy. By focusing Stanhope’s production on high-value products, like ricotta cheese, we are able to increase our productivity, efficiency and competitiveness.” Judith Swales, Managing Director, Fonterra Australia said.

“This move confirms our commitment to dairy processing in Victoria, and the Victorian Government’s commitment to food processing.”

“The Victorian Coalition Government works with businesses in regional Victoria, including manufacturers, to attract and facilitate new investment, create jobs, increase productivity and competitiveness and provide access to new market opportunities.” Mr. Ryan said.

The Industries for Today and Tomorrow program is a regional investment attraction and facilitation program which focuses on innovation and the creation of new jobs and exports.
