Man Charged With 75 Fraud Matters – City Central
A man has been charged with a further 68 fraud matters while facing court in Sydney yesterday.
The 48-year-old Camperdown man was originally arrested on 25 November last year while leaving a financial institution in Martin Place, Sydney.
At the time of his arrest the man was allegedly in possession of five fraudulent passports, $1,400 in cash and a fraudulent debit card.
He was arrested and charged with seven fraud offences.
Further investigation by City Central detectives in conjunction with bank investigators have revealed further alleged offences committed by the man between 30 June and 25 November 2009.
It is alleged the man opened a large number of bank accounts under false names and using false identification.
It is further alleged the man sent a number of fraudulent transfers to financial institutions, successfully obtaining over $630,000.
When the man faced Central Local Court yesterday (22 January), he was charged with a further 68 offences, including 32 counts of use false instrument with intent, 21 counts of open account with a cash dealer in a false name and 15 counts of make false instrument with intent.
The man is now facing a total of 75 charges. He has been remanded in custody and is next due to face Central Local Court on 4 March 2010.
