The State Opposition are calling on Tourism Minister Leon Bignell to identify and payback all questionable claims for hotel stays in Adelaide he has made on the taxpayer since becoming Minister in the State Labor Government.

“The latest revelation that Minister Bignell slugged taxpayers $185.70 to stay in the Intercontinental Hotel on North Terrace in November indicates he has learnt nothing from past mistakes.” Shadow Treasurer Rob Lucas said.

“The fact he has now been forced to repay the amount indicates he now knows it was indefensible.”

“Minister Bignell must immediately add the $145 he claimed for staying in the IBIS Hotel in Grenfell Street last year to the $184.70 he has promised to pay back for staying in the Intercontinental.”

“Minister Bignell also needs to detail precisely how many other times he has used taxpayers’ money to pay for a hotel room in Adelaide.” Mr. Lucas said.

“Minister Bignell must now pay back all taxpayer funded expenses claimed for staying in Adelaide hotels and any other questionable expense claims he has made as a Minister in the State Labor Government.”

“Other Ministers facing the same transport issue don’t seem to have made similar expense claims.”

“Many taxpayers will be furious at Minister Bignell’s arrogance that taxpayers should continue to pay for a series of expense claims which they would consider expensive and wasteful.” Mr. Lucas said.
