Police Search Bushland For Missing Bushwalkers – Hawkesbury
Police are searching bushland for two bushwalkers overdue from a two day hike in the Hawkesbury area.
About 9.30 am on Monday (18 January), a man and woman aged 50, contacted relevant authorities about their intention to commence the two day walk along the Colo-Meroo walking trail. The walk covers approximately 20km and was estimated to take no longer than two days.
About 9.30 pm on Tuesday evening (19 January), a concerned relative contacted Police after the couple failed to return from the walk.
Police commenced a search for the walkers last night and located their car secured at the commencement of the track on Sams Way. Police located well marked copies of maps highlighting their intended route, however there was no indications the walkers had returned.
The search was suspended until this morning when Police, State Emergency Service officers, National Parks and Wildlife Officers and Polair, continued to search the area.
Police believe the couple are very experienced walkers and are probably equipped with a tent and supplies.
Police are appealing for anyone who might have been bushwalking in this area the last couple of days and sighted the pair to contact Hawkesbury Police on 4560 6999 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
