Hawthorn’s Tom Mitchell Wins 2018 Brownlow Medal

Hawthorn’s Tom Mitchell has won the 2018 Brownlow Medal with 28 votes ahead of Collingwood’s Steele Sidebottom on 24 votes.

Melbourne’s Angus Brayshaw received 21 votes while the 2017 Brownlow Medal winner Dustin Martin received 19 votes.

Brownlow Medal History

Brownlow Medal (Charles Brownlow Trophy) is awarded to the Best and Fairest Player during the Home and Away Season as determined by Umpires officiating at Victorian Football League (VFL)/Australian Football League (AFL) matches.

First Brownlow Medal was awarded in 1924. There was no Brownlow Medal awarded from 1942-45 due to World War II.

Similar awards to the Fairest and Best Player are also presented in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) and Western Australian Football League (WAFL).

SANFL Best and Fairest Player award is named the Magarey Medal.

WAFL Best and Fairest Player award is named the Sandover Medal.
