Brendan Moon Appointed CEO Of The Queensland Reconstruction Authority

Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning Jackie Trad have announced the appointment of Mr. Brendan Moon to the role of Chief Executive Officer of the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.

Ms. Trad said Mr. Moon was an accomplished senior executive and had substantial experience across both the public and private sector.

“Mr. Moon has been Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Queensland Reconstruction Authority since November 2015 and has been at the Queensland Reconstruction Authority since May 2011.” Deputy Premier Trad said.

“After constructing an incredibly successful career on the rugby field, Mr. Moon has been working hard leading recovery and reconstruction in Queensland following natural disasters.”

“He has led a multi-disciplinary team in the assessment, delivery and acquittal of a reconstruction program valued at more than $13 Billion administered by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.”

“Mr. Moon has helped improve the resilience of our state’s infrastructure having managed the joint Commonwealth-State $80 Million Betterment Fund following natural disasters in 2013 and the delivery of the $20 Million Betterment Fund that was established following Tropical Cyclone Marcia last year.” Deputy Premier Trad said.

“As a former Wallaby great, Mr. Moon knows the importance of team work which is vitally important to the Queensland Reconstruction Authority as it works closely with key stakeholders at a local, state and federal level.”

“Mr. Moon has a proven track record of leadership and success both on and off the field and I look forward to continuing to work with him in his capacity as Chief Executive Officer of the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.” Deputy Premier Trad said.

Mr. Moon was appointed Chief Executive Officer by an independent panel from a field of more than 50 applicants.

Queensland Reconstruction Authority

  • Responsible for managing and administering the State’s Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) program,
  • Established following the unprecedented damage caused by the Queensland Floods and Tropical Cyclone Yasi and associated rainfall and flooding in 2010-11,
  • Made a permanent part of the Queensland Government in June 2015.

Brief Biography – Mr. Brendan Moon

Mr. Brendan Moon was appointed to the role of Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Queensland Reconstruction Authority in November 2015.

Prior to this, he was Deputy Chief Executive Officer and has been at the QRA since 2011 as General Manager, Operations.

Brendan has a demonstrated track record for delivery of major infrastructure and infrastructure programs in challenging environments.

Brendan previously held the role of General Manager, Environment, Biodiversity and Sustainability of Wyaralong Dam Alliance, responsible for the procurement and delivery of what was, at the time, the largest vegetation and carbon offset project in Queensland.

Brendan received a highly commended award for Project Manager of the Year at the 2015 Australian Institute of Project Management awards.

Brendan is a graduate of the University of Queensland.

Brendan also represented Australia in Rugby Union at the highest level, playing test matches for the Wallabies and is widely considered by his peers and contemporaries as one of the best wingers in the game.
