P-Plater Killed In Head-On Crash – Blue Mountains
A man has been killed following a head-on crash on the Great Western Highway at Lawson in the Blue Mountains this morning.
About 10:15am, emergency services were called to the highway after a Nissan Pintara and a Pantec truck collided head-on.
Police, Paramedics, NSW Fire Brigade Rescue officers and the Head Injury Response Trauma (HIRT) helicopter attended the scene and worked on freeing the driver of the Nissan who had been trapped in his vehicle.
Attempts were made to resuscitate the 18-year-old male provisional P2 driver however, he died at the scene.
The male driver of the truck was not injured and he was taken to Katoomba Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.
The Great Western Highway has been partially closed with Police establishing a crime scene and conducting examinations of the scene.
One lane of the Great Western Highway is open with a traffic contra-flow in place while eastbound traffic is also diverting into Badgery’s Crescent.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
