Ballarat-based mining technology company Gekko Systems Pty Ltd will develop more export opportunities through an $80,000 Victorian Coalition Government Global Export Engagement Program grant announced today by the Minister for Manufacturing, Exports and Trade Richard Dalla-Riva.
Announcing the funding at the Gekko premises during a regular industry visit to the Ballarat region that will include other leading exporters in the area, Mr. Dalla-Riva said a strong export sector was vital for Victorian business productivity and innovation.
“Gekko is a world leader in the design, development and distribution of innovative mineral processing equipment and systems with a particular focus on gravity separation.” Mr. Dalla-Riva said.
“Over the last 16 years Gekko has manufactured more than 490 mining units in 43 countries and currently exports about 75 % of its products and services.”
“The company is an export success story and is a role model for other businesses in Victoria on capturing new markets such as South America. Gekko’s export growth means the company now employs over 130 staff with offices in Ballarat, Perth, Vancouver, Johannesburg and Santiago.”
“The Coalition Government is committed to ensuring other Victorian manufacturers are supported in expanding into new markets through our International Engagement Strategy, and we are currently preparing for a super trade mission to China in September, as part of that commitment.”
“We also announced a $58 Million manufacturing package in the recent budget which will establish manufacturing networks where already export successful manufacturers, such as Gekko, may be part of a cluster in their region which will enable smaller manufacturers to seek their advice, expertise and share research.” Mr. Dalla-Riva said.
Gekko’s latest product development focuses on designing a solutions platform to improve the management of piping systems for the mining industry worldwide. The solution proposes a range of pipes with interchangeable flanges and elbows that can be joined and installed into a mine plant.
While in Ballarat, Mr. Dalla-Riva also visited Hakubaku Australia Pty Ltd, which exports over 75 % of their specialised white wheat noodles to the USA, and Mars Chocolate Australia.
