Northern Territory’s wild and iconic landscapes will be on the silver screen in the prime tourism market of the United States of America with the screening of the IMAX documentary Australia’s Great Wild North.

Australia’s Great Wild North began screening at Seattle’s Pacific Science Center IMAX this week, with support from Tourism NT.

“Film raises the profile of the Top End, playing an important role in supporting the thousands of jobs in our tourism industry.” Minister for Tourism and Culture Lauren Moss said.

“Showcasing the breathtaking beauty of the Top End, the film includes Darwin surrounds, Mary River National Park, Kakadu National Park, Arnhem Land and the Katherine region.”

Film raises the profile of the Top End which is good for tourism and good for jobs.

Minister for Tourism and Culture, Lauren Moss said Tourism NT has launched cooperative marketing partnerships with the Pacific Science Center and tourism industry giant Expedia in conjunction with the screenings to convert viewers to visitors.

“Pacific Science Center has thoroughly enjoyed working with Tourism NT in our joint efforts to promote Australia’s Great Wild North. The film is visually stunning, educating guests on the wildlife and nature in the Top End of Australia.” Pacific Science Center Marketing Lead Robert Duggan said.

“Accompanying exhibit on display provided by Tourism NT helps our guests connect the film with real-life experiences available to visitors in the NT.”

Pacific Science Center sees around 400,000 IMAX film viewers each year and this is just one of several locations interested in screening this breakthrough documentary.

Film also tested extremely well in San Diego (California), Denver (Colorado) and Galveston (Texas) and success in these markets could see the documentary shown in the UK and China.

Australia’s Wild North follows the life of a saltwater crocodile from hatching through to adulthood and is an epic journey through the wildest landscapes of Northern Australia.

Around 90 % of the film was shot in the Territory’s Top End and includes breathtaking footage of Darwin surrounds, Mary River National Park, Kakadu National Park, Arnhem Land and the Katherine region.

Latest US-focused activities are complemented by a suite of cooperative marketing partnerships made possible through the Territory Government’s $103 Million Turbocharging Tourism initiative.

These include leveraging Tourism Australia’s “Dundee” campaigns; the Great Outback Payback; Fly Free to the Outback; Always-on Online Travel Agency partnerships with Priceline and Expedia Networks; and cooperative marketing campaigns with Qantas Airways and premier trade partners.
