New Chairperson For Victoria Legal Aid

Attorney-General Robert Clark today announced the appointment of Mr. Andrew Guy as the new Chairperson of Victoria Legal Aid (VLA).
Mr. Clark said Mr. Guy’s strong legal and corporate governance background made him highly qualified to lead the VLA Board.
“Mr. Guy brings more than 40 years of legal and management experience to the role and his expertise will help ensure VLA continues to provide quality legal advice and services to the Victorian public.” Mr. Clark said.
Graduating from Melbourne University Law School in 1969, Mr. Guy also holds an MBA from IMEDE at Lausanne, Switzerland.
“As well as a successful career as a lawyer and partner with a leading law firm, Mr. Guy has built a reputation as a highly regarded company director.” Mr. Clark said.
“Mr. Guy has wide-ranging experience as a director, sitting on the boards of PaperlinX, Aviva Australia Holdings, Pasminco and Spicers Paper, among others.”
The Attorney-General also announced the appointment of Ms. Catherine McGovern to the VLA Board.
Ms. McGovern is the General Manager, Government and Public Affairs, at Medibank Private and a board member of Melbourne Citymission.
“Ms. McGovern’s corporate and public sector management experience will provide strong support to the VLA Board.” Mr. Clark said.
Both board members have been appointed for three-year terms.
Mr. Guy will replace outgoing VLA Chairperson John Howie whose term expires on 30 September, while Ms. McGovern replaces former VLA Director Susan Walpole whose term expired on 28 August.
Mr. Clark expressed the Victorian Coalition Government’s appreciation to both Mr. Howie and Ms. Walpole for their service to VLA and the Victorian community.
