Monday 18 January 2010

Following the resignation of Lynne Kosky MP this morning, the Speaker, Honourable Jenny Lindell MP has issued the writ for a by-election to fill the vacant electoral seat in the District of Altona.

The by-election will be held on Saturday, 13 February 2010.

Victorian Electoral Commissioner Steve Tully said that letters are being sent to every household in the electorate, reminding people to update their enrolment details if they have moved, or to get on the roll if they are 18 or over and have never enrolled before.

“Although most people know that voting is compulsory, many people don’t realise that enrolling and keeping their enrolment details current is also compulsory. Rolls for the by-election close at 8.00pm on Monday 25 January 2010 and all enrolment forms must reach the Victorian Electoral Commission by this time.”

Enrolment forms are available online at or from any post office, Centrelink, Australian Electoral Commission office or Coles supermarket.

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) will mail further election information to all eligible voters at least two weeks prior to election day, detailing the location of early voting and election day voting centres.
