Extra Late Night Trains For Concert Fans

Victor P Taffa

Concert goers will no longer need to worry about missing the encore so they can catch the last train back from the Boondall Entertainment Centre.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Scott Emerson has announced four new train services on the Shorncliffe line at night, which would take the worry out of attending special events at Boondall.

“These new services will provide capacity for at least 700 more people per night to catch the train home after big events at the entertainment centre.” Mr. Emerson said.

“We all know how congested Sandgate Road and the Gateway Motorway can get when big events are on, so this is another step to encourage people to leave the car at home and take public transport instead.”

Member for Nudgee Jason Woodforth said the two new inbound train services would depart Boondall station at 11.14 pm and 12.14 am.

“Previously the final inbound service was at 11.44 pm which caused some fans to miss out on the end of concerts.” Mr. Woodforth said.

“These two new trains will run from Monday to Thursday, extending the half-hour train frequency on this line.”

“Trains already run to these times on the weekend (Friday and Saturday nights), when late night patronage is traditionally higher.”

Member for Sandgate Kerry Millard said passengers heading outbound to North Boondall, Sandgate and Shorncliffe stations will also benefit from the upgrades.

“There will be two new outbound trains from Roma Street departing Boondall station at 10.48 pm and 11.48 pm, as well as the regular timetable trains at 11.18 pm and 12.18 am.” Ms. Millard said.

“Minor adjustments of a few minutes are also being made to outbound afternoon peak trains to provide better timetable efficiency.”
