Accountable Government: SA Liberals To Publish The Cost Of The Desal Plant On Water Bills

Victor P Taffa

Liberal Opposition Leader Isobel Redmond and Shadow Minister for Water Vickie Chapman today announced a policy that will require SA Water to publish the cost of the desalination plant on household water bills.

Labor’s disastrous decision to double the size of the $2.2 Billion desalination plant has resulted in huge increases to water prices.

Just this week, the Opposition revealed that the Weatherill Labor Government was aware in May, when it announced this year’s 25 % increase in water prices, that the plant would be mothballed from 2015.

“The Weatherill Labor Government deceived the people of South Australia and kept the mothballing of the plant a secret.” Liberal Leader Isobel Redmond said.

“If elected in March 2014, a Redmond Liberal Government will immediately act to display on quarterly water bills the average cost per household of the desalination plant.”

“Unlike Premier Weatherill, the South Australian Liberals are committed to delivering honest, transparent and accountable Government.”

“Labor’s mismanagement of the desalination plant will cost South Australians.” Shadow Minister for Water Vickie Chapman said.

“South Australians deserve to know how much they are paying for Labor’s desalination plant and the effect it is having on their increasing cost of living.”
