Gago Shortchanges Riverland By $6.2 Million

The Riverland has been shortchanged by the Weatherill Labor Government, which is withholding $6.2 Million of the Riverland Sustainable Futures Fund from local businesses.
Member for Chaffey Tim Whetstone said Minister Gago’s announcement that remaining funds would be ‘leveraged’ to get funding through a Federal Government program left Riverland businesses in limbo.
“Labor has broken its promises time and time again with this money.” Mr. Whetstone said.
“In good faith, Riverland businesses have gone through a complicated and laborious process to apply for the fund, only to find out that $6.2 Million of it was never on the table.”
“There is no guarantee the Riverland will ever be the recipient of funds from the Murray-Darling Basin Regional Economic Diversification program.”
“We’ve been shortchanged. There will be many businesses in the region absolutely furious with this incompetent, unaccountable Labor Government.” Mr. Whetstone said.
“Many businesses hoping for assistance have spent a great deal of time and money submitting applications, only to now discover that effort has been wasted. They may have to apply for a completely different program all over again.”
“This is not what was promised, this is not what the fund was meant for.”
“The Minister must reverse this shocking decision and re-open the fund to applications from Riverland businesses.” Mr. Whetstone said.
